SUMMARY

    Sermons by Anthony Metropolitan of Sourozh entitled “Beginning the Lent” open the 27th Issue (the 1st in 2001) of Alpha & Omega. The same section, Biblical Studies, contains the last instalment of the essay by Fr K. Kustodiev “Woman in the Old Testament” started in the Issues 22–26, and the next portion of the abstract of I. H. Marshall’s book “The Gospel of Luke. A Commentary on the Greek Text” (5:12–7:10) by Yakov Testelets started in the Issues 23–26 of the journal.
     The section Patristic Exegesis contains “A Commentary on the Epistle to Ephesians” by St. Justin (Popovi[) translated by Fr Igor Vostrikov. In the next section Patristics we publish “Against Praxeas” by Tertullian translated under the guidance of Aleksej Fokin, and the last instalment of “The Letter of Bishop Ammon on Pachomios and Theodore: Mode of Living and partly Living” translated by Aleksej Sidorov.
     The section Church in History includes an article by Metropolitan Gurij (Egorov) “Patriarch Sergij as a Theologian” provided with a Preface by Archimandrite Makarij (Veretennikov), “Thoughts on the Jubilee Bishops’ Council” by Bishop Sergij (Sokolov), “The Experience of Hell as the Way to the Heavenly Kingdom” by Archimandrite Simeon (Brueschweiler) translated by Natalia Anikina, the second part of “The Death of a Priest as Presented in the Slavonic Book of Needs” by Fr Aleksij Knjazev translated by Tatjana Miller, “The Application of Ancient Canons of Repentance in the Mistery of Repentance and Confession from the Ancient Time until Nowadays” by Fr Georgij Breev, “A Praise to Russian Saints by Sergij (Shelonin), a Monk in Solovetsky Monastery” published and provided with a Preface by Oleg Panchenko, and “The Problem of Time in Hesychast Anthropology” by Pavel Serzhantov.
     In the section Church in Eternity we continue “The Lives of the Newly Canonized Saints” started in the Issues 15-16 and 18-25 of the journal.
     In the section Russia that Is Not Gone we publish the last portion of “Memoirs on his Eminence Kirill the Archbishop of Penza and Saransk” by Fr Vladimir Timakov started in the Issues 25-26 of the journal.
     In the section Apologetics we publish a paper by Jurij Maksimov “Miracle in Christianity and Islam”.
     The next section Church Culture contains a paper by Evgenij Pilipenko “The Patristic Theology of Symbol”.
     An abstract of Pavel Yevdokimov’s “Woman and Salvation of the World” by Vladimir L’vov, a chronicle by Maria Rupova “Conference “The Orthodox Church and the Contemporary World””, a survey by Pavel Serzhantov “Christian Periodicals: New and Revived”, and the last portion of “A Pilgrimage in the Holy Land in the End of the 20th century” by Nina Toropceva started in the Issues 25-26 of the journal conclude the issue.
